William Hogarth, A Harlot’s Progress Plate IV , 1732 - Oxford AcademicWilliam Hogarth (1697–1764) completed his six oil paintings of A Harlot’s Progress in 1731 and issued his copperplate engravings in 1732 . Hogarth sold the paintings to William Beckford, but in 1755 they were destroyed by fire along with Beckford’s Elizabethan mansion .
